- Updated at 07/11/2026, 11:41A cold air mass is forecast to affect Northern and North Central Vietnam from the evening of November 8, 2026, causing temperatures to drop rapidly and bringing cold weather to many areas. Meanwhile, Central Vietnam faces the risk of prolonged heavy rainfall, which could trigger flash floods, landslides, and localized flooding.
Northern Vietnam Braces for Cold Air, with Temperatures Dropping from November 9
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Northern and North Central Vietnam will be affected by a strong cold air mass, bringing significant changes in weather conditions over the coming days. Specifically, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the mountainous and midland areas of Northern Vietnam during the night of November 6-7.
From the late afternoon and evening of November 8, colder conditions are expected in the northern mountainous areas, with some high-altitude locations experiencing severe cold. During the night of November 8-9, showers and thunderstorms are forecast to continue across a wide area, with locally heavy rainfall in some places.

Other areas of Northern and North Central Vietnam are expected to experience cold weather from November 9. Minimum temperatures during this cold spell are forecast to range from 16°C to 19°C across these regions. In high mountainous areas, temperatures may drop below 13°C.

Northern Vietnam Braces for a Strong Cold Air Mass as Temperatures Drop Sharply
In Hanoi, the cold air mass is expected to begin affecting the capital during the evening and night of November 8. From the late evening of November 8 through the morning of November 9, Hanoi may experience rain, showers, and isolated heavy downpours accompanied by thunderstorms. By November 9, temperatures are expected to drop noticeably, bringing colder weather to the capital.
Cold Air Mass Brings Heavy Rainfall to Central Vietnam
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Central Vietnam faces the risk of another widespread heavy rainfall event from November 9 to 12. In addition to the influence of the cold air mass, this rainfall event will also be intensified by an upper-level easterly wind disturbance. The combination of these weather systems is expected to bring heavy rain from Nghe An southward to Dak Lak.

Cold Air Mass May Bring Heavy Rainfall to Several Central Vietnamese Provinces
As the cold air mass moves deeper into the central provinces, widespread heavy rainfall is possible from November 8 to 11 in areas stretching from southern Nghe An Province to Da Nang City, as well as the eastern parts of provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak.
Heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods in small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes, and flooding in low-lying areas.
Protect Your Health as Cold, Damp, and Rainy Weather Persists
According to forecasts, this is only the first cold air mass of the season, with another one or two cold air outbreaks expected before the end of November. As weather conditions continue to change, people should take proactive measures to protect their health, especially young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
According to recommendations from the Department of Health Environment Management under the Ministry of Health, people should wear sufficient warm clothing when going outdoors, including thick layers, scarves, gloves, socks, and face masks. It is also important to keep the body dry and avoid prolonged exposure to damp clothing or moisture around the neck, hands, and feet.
People should limit outdoor activities late at night and early in the morning, particularly between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., when temperatures are typically at their lowest. In addition, exposure to charcoal stove fumes and cigarette smoke should be avoided. Alcohol and stimulants should be consumed in moderation, while warm showers are recommended. Late-night bathing and bathing in poorly enclosed or drafty areas should also be avoided.

Wear warm clothing and supplement your diet with essential vitamins as temperatures drop
To strengthen the immune system, people should maintain a balanced diet that provides adequate nutrients, with an emphasis on foods rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, and essential minerals. Maintaining personal hygiene, washing hands regularly, and getting vaccinated against influenza are also important preventive measures during seasonal transitions.
For outdoor workers, wearing waterproof protective clothing and insulated shoes or boots is essential to reduce the risk of cold exposure. Appropriate breaks should also be scheduled during working hours to prevent prolonged exposure to cold and damp conditions.
Furthermore, prolonged rainy and humid weather combined with cold air can make indoor environments damp and poorly ventilated, creating favorable conditions for mold growth. Persistently high humidity not only affects indoor air quality but also increases the risk of respiratory and skin-related problems. Furniture, clothing, and other household items can also become moldy, develop unpleasant odors, or deteriorate over time.
To minimize these problems, households should regularly clean and maintain their living spaces, paying particular attention to areas prone to moisture accumulation, such as bedrooms, bathrooms, wall corners, and poorly ventilated spaces. When weather conditions make natural ventilation difficult, people may consider using specialized humidity-control appliances, such as dehumidifiers, to maintain a dry and comfortable indoor environment, prevent mold growth, and protect household belongings.
Given the complex weather conditions expected in the coming days, residents in affected areas should closely monitor weather forecasts and hydro-meteorological warnings to respond promptly to changing conditions. They should also take appropriate health precautions, ensure safe travel, and proactively prepare for potential hazards associated with heavy rainfall and severe cold.
