Household dehumidifiers are essential devices for maintaining ideal humidity levels in your living space. To keep the unit operating efficiently, saving energy, and lasting long-term, periodic maintenance and cleaning are a must. Kosmen will guide you through how to properly maintain your dehumidifier for optimal performance and safety during use.
1. Maintenance Instructions
Dehumidifiers should be maintained regularly to ensure optimal performance and durability. Below are the basic maintenance steps for household dehumidifiers:
Note: Turn off the unit and unplug it before performing any cleaning to ensure safety.
Maintenance Steps:
Step 1: Clean the water tank
- Empty all the water from the tank.
- Rinse the tank with warm water and mild soap.
- Let it air dry or wipe it dry completely before reinstalling it into the unit.
Step 2: Clean the filters
- Remove the filter from the unit.
- Gently vacuum or rinse with water (only applicable for pre-filters; HEPA and activated carbon filters in the KM-30N model are not washable).
- Let the filter dry completely before reinstalling.
Note: Clean the filter twice a month to ensure effective dehumidification and energy efficiency.
Step 3: Wipe the exterior surface of the unit
- Use a soft, damp cloth to clean off dust and dirt.
- Avoid using strong detergents or flammable chemicals.
Step 4: Check the drainage hose (if applicable)
- Ensure the hose is not clogged or leaking.
Recommended Frequency: Maintenance should be performed every 1–3 months or more frequently if the unit operates in a dusty environment.

2. Regular Maintenance Check
To maintain the performance and lifespan of the dehumidifier, it is important to regularly inspect and replace components either periodically or when signs of damage appear:
Filter: Clean the pre-filter regularly. For the Kosmen KM-30N, the HEPA H13 filter and activated carbon filter are non-reusable and should be replaced every 6–12 months or when there are signs of discoloration, unpleasant odors, or reduced dehumidification performance.
Power Cord: Inspect frequently. Replace immediately if the cord is cracked, frayed, or exposed.
Water Tank: Replace if cracks or water leaks are detected.
Fan: If unusual noises occur, check and replace the fan or contact Kosmen for assistance.
Heat Exchange Unit: If the machine does not dehumidify effectively, a technician should inspect and repair this component.
Note: If you are unsure about inspecting or replacing any parts, please contact the Kosmen service center or a qualified technician to ensure safety.
3. Important Notes – Please Read Carefully Before Using the Device
Installation Notes
Place the machine in an upright position on a flat, stable surface.
Ensure a clearance of ≥ 30cm from walls, heat-emitting objects, or flammable materials.
Do not block the air intake and air outlet vents.
Usage Notes
Only use the machine in household environments. Do not use in vehicles, boats, wardrobes, or small enclosed spaces.
If the machine has been tilted or laid flat (during cleaning or transport), let it stand upright for at least 1 hour before plugging it back in.
Use the correct power source. Avoid overloading to prevent fire hazards.
Do not drop the machine or allow it to come into contact with water or flammable substances.
Do not turn the machine on/off by unplugging it—always use the control panel to operate.
Before moving the machine, power it off, unplug it, and empty the water tank.
Do not spray insecticides or flammable cleaners on the machine's surface
4. Error Code Explanation
Error Code | Issue | Solution |
E1 | Temperature sensor malfunction | Replace the temperature sensor |
E2 | Humidity sensor malfunction | Replace the humidity sensor |
HI | Room humidity > 95% | Close windows and doors, continue use |
LO | Room humidity < 30% | Dehumidification not necessary |
HL | Room temperature too high/low | Use only within 5 ~ 38°C range |
5. Troubleshooting Guide
Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
Machine does not operate | Power outage, switch off, blown fuse, full water tank | Check power, turn on switch, replace fuse, empty tank |
Poor dehumidification | Wrong settings, blocked vents, unsuitable environment | Reset, remove obstructions, close doors, check temp |
No dehumidification after restart | Compressor in protection mode | Wait 3 minutes before restarting |
Water leakage | Loose/clogged drain hose, improperly installed tank | Tighten, clean hose, reinstall tank properly |
Condensation on outer surface | Environment too humid | Normal – the unit will auto-defrost |
Slight vibration on start/stop | Normal mechanical movement | No concern needed |
